What to Do? What to Do!
Expect New artists. New entertainment. And a lot of customers favorites as well.
PLEASE TOUCH!
“Hands on Arts” lets customers experience the trades and the cultural pleasures of our Early American ancestors. In other words “PLEASE TOUCH.” Here are highlights of some this year’s demonstrations.
- PUNCH Your Own Tin Pattern and create a beautiful candlepane or piesafe square. Tinsmith Al Breitenbach (Booth #10) will welcome your discussion on the artistry and history behind his array of punched tin lanterns, candlesholders, cups, shades and more.
- FLUFF to stuff and FLEECE TO SHAWL. The Butler County Spinners and Weavers Guild are celebrating 25 years with games, competitions and classes for customers while visiting Penn’s Colony this year. Take a fluff of sheep fleece and turn it into functional yarn…with a simple drop spindle. Or watch and measure the member that spins the longest yarn…..we expect this to run the full length of Kuskusky Clearing.
On Saturday, Sept. 29 the Fleece to Shawl competition begins at 10:30 a.m. Watch how fleece is transformed into a beautiful shawl that anyone would love to own…and you can because all shawls will be auctioned at the end of the day. Many guilds will compete in this valuable event.
It’s easy and fun to learn the spinning and knitting arts and the Guild welcomes your hands-on involvement. Stop the Spinning Tent behind the stage at Kuskusky Clearing.
- LET’S DANCE! A free group lesson in the art of Scottish Dance is fun for all ages. Check the entertainment schedule at Kuskusky Clearing.
- MAKE MUSIC! Stringed instruments that are beautifully made are available for purchase. Plus, you learn how to play from artisan Dan Williams at Booth 8.
Try the Wee Whistle! A free group lesson. Purchase of the handcarved pipe is required Check the entertainment schedule for exact times. Kuskusky clearing.
